1550 BC. Luxor became the capital of Egypt in the New Kingdom

At the time of the ancient Egyptians, the city was called Wast (scepter). The Greeks called the city Thebes after the Greek city of Thebes. The Arab rulers gave Luxor its current name. Luxor means "city of palaces"

Brief information about the most important archaeological sites in Luxor:

 

🐇 The Karnak Temple. It contains one of the largest temples in the world. The Karnak Temple was formerly called Amon Ra and contains a pillared hall with 134 columns, which is considered the largest pillared hall in the world and includes 34 buildings. The most important kings of Egypt ruled in the temples, for example the temple of Ramses III, the temple of Chonsu and the temple of Thutmose III. The Holy Lake and other memorial sites were also located here.

 

🐇 The Valley of the Kings. It was created in ancient times, around 3,500 years BC. BC, called "Path to Truth" or "Path to Justice".
